The Resisted Sprint is a Phenomenal speed training exercise. For the first 5 seconds Kemar is resisted on the spot. Here he is working on perfecting his sprinting technique.
As Kemar moves forward he must drive his feet into the ground powerfully to push him forward. This specifically conditions his glutes and hamstings .
This Resisted Sprints drill is performed by athletes from a range of sports to target and activate their fast twitch muscle fibres.
The glutes and hamstrings are strengthened by pushing off against the track and the quads and hip-flexors are being conditioned from the knee drive through the Speed Bands.
Once these muscles are firing correctly they can contract quicker which results in you applying more force into the ground pushing you forward at a faster rate.
Leeroy concentrates on drills that improve both speed and sprinting mechanics together at the one time and this is an excellent exercise that achieves both.
Have a look at Kemar Bailey Cole's technique and pay particular attention to his knee drive and arm mechanics.
